Plenty of males, and a few females too - some even ready for partners. Some young ones, some juvies, and some adults.

We have some new crested geckos being added to our lines to help increase the quality and the bloodlines so that we can continue to provide the very best offspring for YOU to add to your own collection. I was not surprised to find it still was watery. I was hoping by mixing the two it might balance out. Oh well.

Tonight I tried the Pineapple Express. I love pineapple so I figured why not give it a shot. Right off, I found it mixed MUCH better - thicker and more along the lines of what a good consistency should be for the geckos. I am (so far at least) hopeful for a better response. Being a seasonal blend, it is in limited availability of course, but we shall see. I will check dishes in the morning...

I still have Cherry Bomb to try ... but I didn't get a good response when I tried the Mulberry Mix.

Tomorrow is keeper cleaning and rotations ... maybe get a few updated photos for the available section!

Thanks to all for the ongoing support!
Katt's Krittershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11052606131040228142noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-234333610101426221.post-29546373605929088322021-05-27T23:03:00.001-04:002021-05-27T23:03:50.747-04:00Reptile Tank Cleaning
So I wanted to share a great product for cleaning glass tank I recently tried.

ZooMed Wipe Out!

Terrarium and small animal cage

That being said, the ZooMed WIPE OUT rocks pretty damn good as an alternative.

I have been downsizing my crestie collection, and have been cleaning the tanks as I go. I decided to try this stuff as I was given a half-full container. I was pleasantly impressed with how easily this spray worked. I will say it does have a slight smell but that is just there when you spray the glass. After a minute or two of the spray sitting, it was a dream to use a scrubby sponge to get the hard water and other "presents" left by the geckos. Very little elbow grease needed. I always do a hot water rinse and then use a small towel to be sure there is no residue left, regardless if it says that it not needed to be rinsed.

So ... all in all I am glad to have found a more readily available option to clean the messy food footprints etc. You should check it out ... don't take my word for it.

Safe to say, this item is DEF Katt's Kritters approved!

Katt's Krittershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11052606131040228142noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-234333610101426221.post-59976483919865660512021-03-21T21:39:00.000-04:002021-03-21T21:39:14.114-04:00New Plans and Ideas
Yeah ... I know ... it's been a while ... again ...

So ... going forward ... while covid runs its course, we will be making some changes here at Katt's Kritters.

Firstly, with the lack of expos and the such, we are limiting the breeding pairs for the 2021 season. In the past, we would have paired up about 6 or so breeders, and had a nice selection of eggs to work with. This season (2021) we have paired only 2 ... Garnet with Po, and Jordyn with Sandi. One set are known breeders, no issues or uncertainties - other than what the breeding result will look like of course. The other pair ... well this is their first year BOTH so we are hopeful but not overly expecting much.

We do have Garnet's first set of eggs (fertile), and Sandi has laid one egg (dud). Her other egg should be there tomorrow I hope.

Secondly, we are downsizing BIG TIME. This is being done so we have the space and funds for adding more gecko breeds (phants, gargs, etc) and getting higher quality breeders. We have about 75% or so of the current collection available for sale. It will take a few runs to get all of them photo'd and uploaded to the site with all the juicy details, but keep watch!

Some of the collection that would be for sale, are actually being held onto ... for potential future breeding. But that may change yet ... who knows!

We are still offering the supplies and equipment as usual, shipping as needed but most folks are local and are quite happy stopping by to pick things up. Let us know if there is something you are looking for, and we will order items as requested.

Yes we are dying for the chance to hit Gatineau, Pointe Claire and even the GTA expos WHEN it is safe to do so. Safety is always first!

Keep safe ... stay well!

Katt's Krittershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11052606131040228142noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-234333610101426221.post-47834623358695808762020-07-21T16:09:00.000-04:002020-07-21T16:10:37.841-04:00Babies Babies Babies! So the baby season has started! A little rocky, but still good.

We had one baby so far from the Garnet x Sam pairing (the other egg of that clutch was a dud), and the next set are due to hatching around Aug 2 if the timing stays consistent. The eggs seem to be hatching around 120 days or so.

We have also had both eggs from the first clutch of River x Kovu pairing hatch, so that makes both these new female breeders PROVEN. Always nice!

So, first up is Garnet/Sam new baby ... named DYNO

Then SKYLAR (from Kovu/River) made an appearance ...

And finally (for now) SLOAN arrived (also from Kovu/River) ...

So excited ... but still cautious of course.

Bonnie and Clyde are settling in great, and enjoying their crickets too. Plants should be arriving any day now to complete the tanks so they can feel more at home.

No weight check as yet, but there is time. Lots of time with no expos to go to, and limited shopping.
We are still enjoying being an authorized resller for supplies & equipment, and have had some great sales and such from that both at shows and online/in person. We have managed to get to a couple shows this year, one in Peterborough on the 20th, and the other in Pointe Claire on the 27th.

A few geckos found new homes, with one new one finding her way to my house. She is a beautiful red/orange female with some white pattern near her underside. I am excited to see what she can produce. We have a great breeding line up planned for the upcoming season, and am hoping for lots and lots of gorgeous babies to grow and offer later in the fall of next year.

For this year, we have purchased some wholesale juvies (1 year old cresties) for resell, but there are 2 that I will be keeping for future breeding plans. Feel free to visit our main website to see these beauties! A few months ago, we were given the opportunity to purchase a large number of wholesale hatchlings (34 in total), and I am very glad to have that offer. These little ones have a lot of growing to do, but should be ready to find new homes when the weather warms up in the spring of 2020. Watch for updates to be posted on the facebook page in a couple months. They are too little yet to get fired up pictures, but soon ... soon.

Over the winter, sales can still be done on supplies & equipment, even if shipping is needed. If you are looking to buy a gecko, those are NOT shipped, and are only available for in person sales.

We are hoping to be able to get to more expos in the new year, starting in the spring. Maybe even a show in Mississauga ... who knows.

Well, back to the geckos!

Katt

https://kattskritters.com
Katt's Krittershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11052606131040228142noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-234333610101426221.post-92165726437554133512019-08-18T18:23:00.002-04:002019-08-18T18:23:32.033-04:00New News!So ... new things on the horizon ... and beyond, hopefully!

We have added a number of babies to the already growing (albeit slowly) zoo ... and they will be available to purchase hopefully in a few months. Some of them are 3 weeks old, and some are 7 weeks old. They have not been weighed or named as yet, but they will be in a couple weeks, after which I will post all their cute faces on facebook and the official Katt's Kritter site .... new cute faces are SO much fun!

The next expo will be on October 20 this year, and help in Peterborough. I am hoping to attend, of course, and to have a big pile of stuff with me for all you fans to see and buy!

We are still waiting to hear when and if there will be a Gatineau show this year, or if it will be in the spring due to the heavy rain damage that impacted the usual venue for the expo. Otherwise, we might just try to expand out to Pointe Clair expo ... we shall see...

We are in the process of submitting the paperwork in order to get the needed funds for expanding the business, by adding more types of geckos to add to the available ones for next year. If we get approved we will be adding gargoyle geckos, day geckos, and maybe even satanic leaf-tail geckos. After a year of time, we hope to be able to have little ones available for you to add to your own collection. So exciting!

We have had a few little ones from our pairing of Ruby and Kovu, and MAN are they cute little things!

First up is Roni ... born July 14, 2019 so it will be a few months until ready to list for sale.

As usual, my blogging is lacking in regularity ... but what else is new?

So .. the "downs" first ...

Last breeding season was very poor .. had more bad eggs than successful hatchings. I had 5 girls paired, but only got fertile eggs from 2 of the 5, and of those only 4 eggs survived. I have sold one of those, but was a bit younger than I normally would. If interested, the babies are Devon (sold), Karmel, Ripley (see picture below), and Cruz, and pics of them can be seen on the facebook page for Katt's Kritters ...

At this time, we have no car so I am not sure of making any shows over the summer and into the fall, but we are hoping to have a vehicle by winter. Any orders for supplies or geckos require the buyer to either meet here or pay for shipping. Sorry ...

Between the lack of a car and the low breeding numbers, the business has hit a bit of a slow-down. This makes things very frustrating, and results in a lot of questioning and evaluating of plans. I am doing my best to keep things moving in a positive forward direction, but with such a lack of needed resources, it does get hard.

So ... now the "ups" ....

So far we are off to a better start for fertile eggs, with 9 already in the incubator and the first of those due to hatch around beginning of June. There are many more months yet to go for the girls to lay eggs, but so far I have only got fertile eggs from Meg, Ruby, and Morticia. Lily has yet to drop any viable eggs, and Lady seems to have a long delay in dropping ANY eggs at all. I know they will yet, as they have before.

I have made some changes to have some better quality breeders, so I will have high contrast harlequins (working on getting cream/red combo), pinstripes, and dark.

I am hoping that I will get some nice dark babies from my SAM x MORTICIA pairing, and if so, then I will sell Ash. Otherwise, I will list both the dark "breeders" instead. I do have nice pinstripe morph options, so I will be able to offer a range of options.

Around this time last year, we signed on and became authorized resellers for equipment and supplies that are available from many big names, like Mist King, Repashy, Pangea (not food), Sunblaster, PetTech and Galapagos, to name a few. This will hopefully help carry over through our slower times of the season.

I was also given 4 geckos to add to my collection from a gentleman that was getting out of the business. With the addition of these four, I find that I have three cresties that carry the lineage of Prince (from Dream Maker Reptiles) so I am excited for when my future breeders get closer to that stage. I am keeping 2 of the four as future breeders, and the other 2 younger ones are still growing out a bit before I list them. Stay tuned!

Many future breeders getting bigger over time, so big plans over the next few years.

Nothing worth doing is worth doing fast, so to take the time that is needed will be better in the end!

I am working to upgrade my crested gecko quality in order to work on a high contrast high quality line. So a few of the current breeders (both male and female) will be listed as available BUT not all and the females that WILL be listed will not be listed until they are done their breeding season. Some will be kept even after based on what they produce.

Meg is a full pin so she will be staying on, as will Morticia since this is her first year breeding. There are some females (or possible females ... can't quite tell yet) that have yet to grow big enough to do breeding with, so those will be waiting about 2 years yet. I do have 2 females on the way, plus a new male to suit the better / higher quality project. Fingers crossed things move along as I am trying and hoping to get them to.

As for eggs, I have 3 hatchlings that came out of the Sam x Meg pairing this year (Devon, Karmel and Ripley), but the rest of her eggs to date have not produced anything. Moriticia's so far have been the same. The only ones I can say safely that will hatch with great results are the ones from Lady x Po pairing. I am not 100% sure about Lily's or Ruby's yet, but this is really their first year breeding. We shall see ...

As for other things, we have started carrying products and equipment and supplies ... authorized reseller for Mist King, Zoo Med, SunBlaster, and lots more! The site has a store section that is slowly being added to, but no real sales there yet. We did sell a bunch of stuff at the last Gatineau Reptile Expo, so hopefully I can get more stock to take and sell. As a reseller the minimum order goes up, but I can get stuff for my own use that way too.

There is talk that the hatching/egg issues are global ... which means it is not weather related (way hotter and humid than previously) ... some are thinking it may be related to a food blend since that would be globally related. That is definitely something to dig into deeper.

Well, time to add more items to the store!

https://kattskritters.comKatt's Krittershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11052606131040228142noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-234333610101426221.post-41297804853802061572018-02-01T21:58:00.001-05:002018-02-01T21:58:47.216-05:00New food ... and updates
So .... after reading a pile of reviews and such about different foods and supplements for cresties ... especially when dealing with picky eaters ... I have edited the powder-mix bucket ... by adding 2 new options to the combination in use already.

The bucket mix I have used so far is a combo of Repashy Super Mango Blend and Repashy Grubs N Fruit ... with a small bit of the Banana Cream Pie and/or Pangea Breeders Formula. The last 2 are not a staple based on budget and availability. This mix has some eating much better than others in my gecko crew, so I am trying to find a more successful mix.

Tonight they were given a mix of the Super Mango and the Grubs N Fruit .... with the added flavors of Repasy SuperPIG and Repashy Classic mix ... the only product for cresties they carry that contains some bee pollen. If this mix is a win tonight, I may look for straight bee pollen ... or keep with this mix. The morning should say ....

The mix is a bit of a darker color than before, but I think that is due to the SuperPIG powder. I think that mix is for enhancing their natural pigment and such. Again, we shall see.

We have one fertile clutch so far from the Sam x Meg pairing, with her clutch date being around the 26th of the month or so for laying. Up next will be Sam x Ruby ... and I will pair Castiel to the other 2 females later in the rotation. I have a pair on hold in Ottawa area, with one more payment to go before I arrange to pick them up. As yet there are no eggs from them. I am not worried since I am working on a longer breeding season rotation ... this way I should have eggs/babies later into the year. I am hoping to have "stock" available for more expos ... including some GTA ones later this year.

Once things have become more established, I am planning to add to the collection of breeders with different gecko breeds, such as Giant Day Geckos... or Gargoyle Geckos ... but definitely satanic leaf tails ... it is just a question of getting one of the others for a bit to learn before breeding. It does mean I need more tanks and space LOL

I am seeking more funding .... but we shall see. This business will continue regardless ....

The last Gatineau Reptile Expo went exceedingly well! I am so glad we decided to branch out into that area. Each time it gets better and better...

We took up 17 cresties of various ages ... came home with 1 of the four adults, 1 of the 4 juvies, and 5 of the 9 hatchlings/babies that went to the show. The interest and crowd was amazing! We even had a booking for a sale for after we got back to town .. which led to the sale of the last juvie I had available.

The remaining geckos that are still available are Gomez, London, Skye, Ocean, Payton, and Sage. I hope to have some new little ones or maybe some adults in time for the spring show .... unless the next is not until summer, and I know I will have new geckos available by then.... keep watch!

There will be some new breeders brought into the mix .... 3 yet to finish paying off, but two are already with me ... I just need to give them time to grow a bit more. Castiel is about 23grams .... and JoJo is barely 5grams ... breeders must be at least 35grams if not closer to 40. But the 3 coming will be RTB (ready to breed) .... so I am excited about that!

Well back to other Katt's Kritters work .... keep an eye on here and both the Facebook page and the mainsite kattskritters.com for more updates!

So far .. we have had a pretty good season. There are still a few from 2016 breeding season available .. and a whole pile of new wee ones from this 2017 season! They are so cute!

Twink, Max, and Rex as my available adults. Dakota, Hunter, Rudy and Niki are available from the last season (2016). I am keeping (for now) Syd and Izzy ....

For the new season, we had 12, but then sold one ... and 2 more hatched ... so still have 13 there altogether. Only at most 11 will go to the next Gatineau show ... and the Downsview GTA if I can get a table for that one too!

Some of those will be hold-backs (HB) ... I need to see how their patterns go for pricing ... so we have Ash (HB), Logan, Reddy, Bailey, London, Skye, Rox (HB), Ocean, Payton, Rowan, Noire (HB), Sage, and Kassidy. The last two may be too young for this year expos I think ,,,, but we will see ...

I am re-doing the website for a fresh clean updated look ... so I hope you all will like it. It will take a bit to get it done around things, but I will get it done soon as I can.
The little ones are getting better and not being such spazzes ... I spent a few mins with almost all during last night feeding ... and did some hand to hand walking with them. It went well ... now to find homes for the ones from 2016 ... while these grow!

Well the babies have started hatching ... and the others keep growing!

All the 2016 hatchlings have been sexed ... and some are reading as female. Next is to decide if that changes any prices or not ....

The next Peterborough Expo is coming up at the end of April so I am starting to get sorted for that. Figuring what to bring and making sure to not forget anything ... best to make a list I guess ....

Well ... so far .. we have had some interesting things going on ..

Max seemed to be in high demand .. until I tell the USA folks the cost of shipping to them... then BAM! No thanks ...

Red has gone off to a new home with a young girl who is in love with him ....

We have 2 new breeders (Meg and Crowley) but they have yet to give any eggs. I might need to try them again for 2018. I am not worried ... got lots of stuff to sell still!

I have many young ones from 2016 still available, but almost half are now into the juvenile size ... so their prices went up a bit. They also will NOT have the kit option - they will still have the information package though, just like all of the available geckos get.

The first 3 new babies of the 2017 season have arrived! There are many more yet to hatch, but it looks like it will be a full house going to the Peterborough Expo ... not sure if the new ones will be of size, but hopefully....

I am working on getting better photos of them all, but I am starting with the nursery cresties first. I just have to fuss with the DIY lightbox more .... its the lighting issue. It looks like the whole plan of the sides with lights STILL casts an orange hue.

I will get it sorted .... never fear!

Well back to the fun!

Twink has been flighty a bit more lately than normal .... and tonight she jumped and found my eye... it was closed but still. Most times my guys will jump on the camera eye ...but this was weird. I am wondering if I need to move her tank out of that spot.... maybe to my desk or my room ...

As for the babies, they seem to really be showing their personalities more and more. Syd keeps trying to be like the big boys... but is so tiny still. Freddie and Chance and Izzy all wanted to spend a few minutes out of their enclosures... so I guess I need to start taking time and handling them more often. A tamer gecko is more liked.

As for the chewers, we have put a trial test run flooring in with both Rudy and Bobbi. Instead of paper towels I have put a clear ridged shelf liner (from the dollar store) cut to the size of the floor. Hopefully this will stop the chewing, and it can be cleaned for re-use. So far so good, but it is still early.

The ones that like to jump at every motion they see are now referred to as The Thud Club. That would be Rudy, Bobbi, Syd and Dakota mainly. I have found this to be a phase, but with this many babies it will be an ongoing phase.

I am getting more and more requests to get a vendors table for the Feb 26 expo in Downsview, but it will cost funds I simply do not have. It is $150 for just the table, not to mention gas both ways and food. I figure the total cost for the day would be about $250 all in. I need to make some money one way or another ....

Well I hope this has been a good update .... more next time!

Same gecko time ... same gecko channel ... or something like that LOL

All the babies are still here .... and even Hayden is getting better. It might very well have been the warmer room or the larger enclosure ... or a combo of both ... no real idea, but he is doing better in the other room at least.

We are up to 3 sets of eggs from Lana X Sam and Cosmo X Rex ..... so hopefully the December clutch will hatch before too long. I will need to find a list of asexual dark style names soon ... I know there are some awesome resources out there....

I am hoping to get the time to make a DIY light box for photos. I need better pics to get better responses ... got the materials i need ... I just need to get to it ASAP. I am beginning to think I need to clone myself ... or something less drastic LOL

I am thinking of keeping Syd as my hold-back. It's not just cuz s/he is cute, but based on the crested gecko's size and the kink in the tail, it may be best. Seems to be taking a long time for him/her to gain any weight. He/She is still barely 2grams ... others born in July like Syd was are double that weight at least.

Well time to step off here for a bit .... I will post again soon with better updates....

So far things have been moving ahead, but winter temperatures make for some frustrating down-time ... but it also gives me a chance to get some other stuff taken care of ... like some art projects and such.

I am planning to get new photos and new data for each crested gecko weight before the end of the year, so I can then update the website. Angel will be going back up for sale, but Hayden will be my hold-back based on potential health issues with his/her sheds. Once he/she has gotten this cleared up, I may list him/her up for sale again. My other choices as hold-back are Fang and Syd ... but I can only keep one... LOL

We are heading to the Peterborough Expo again at the end of April, but I am really hoping to hit up one of the GTA expos prior ... so I can get an idea on crowds and prices before signing up for a table there.

I decided to pair up 2 sets of geckos early this year, ultimately so I will have some specialized babies available for the April expo and onward. I have already got 2 eggs in the incubator from Cosmo x Rex pairing, and 2 eggs from Lana x Sam which should help with the dark babies... fingers crossed! The waiting is fun (as always) while I wait for them to hatch ...

I am always working on a better set-up of the geckos and gear, so I am looking to edit the shelf unit a bit to make it smoother for the baby tanks and for the bin of gear underneath (and all the stuff on top) but that depends on the available space. Might need to get creative for new babies soon if some of the ones from last season don't sell soon!

Well back to stuff ....

Since the last post, we have gotten the first small loan ... and it has gone to great things. It helped cover the Peterborough expo, and get some more big tanks and some wee babies for selling too! I sold both Sylvest'r and Lady M at the expo, and sold a baby (Justice) via a contest I help. I hear the little one is doing well and being a trouble maker .... sounds about right! LOL

I have paired up the geckos, but only Sam and Lana were able to be paired for the dark boys, and Cosmo had some time with Rex. They have now all been separated, and now we wait for the eggs.

I did find one of the babies from the eggs I bought early this spring hatched out a dark colored baby, with a flame. So even though sales have been slow, things are looking up. I have joined about 20million (insert sarcasm here) different crested gecko facebook groups, and have posted Piper as available to about half of those. I am going to wait on the response to those before I post more of the babies.

The GECKO GURU is still going, albeit not daily. I am working on that, but there is so much stuff to get done too .... I am adding a GECKO OF THE WEEK thing ... 5 days of pictures and info about one gecko a week ... see if that helps ... both of these things get shared to Twitter and Instagram ...

I am trying to find things to get more out there ... so the groups and a couple forums ... I try to hit them up often ...

New cards and logos on shirts already done for next expo in April ....

Back to it all ....

There is a LOT going on.

I have been working on getting the names to match across google with the registeted business name. Google seems to be having issues with the change .... too recently changed .... dumb typo ... oh well, it will get sorted yet.

More meetings have gone on .... and hopefully that means we are getting closer to the needed funding. We have been told to submit fpr the smaller amount aka "event funding" so we can be covered for immediate needs, like the 2 needed terrariums and stuff for them, lighting, and the upcoming expo, as well as gecko food and supplies and more. It involves a lot of paperwork, and a lot of time. Hopefully it will pan out and Katt's Kritters can be one more step closer to reality.

The fun (so to speak) right now is budgeting ... bills .... and finding a larger space to live in that we can afford. Now thats the trick .... I need to find a way to pull in more revenue so we can do that.

Well fans, errands and more paperwork tomorrow .... watch for the GECKO GURU posts and pics .... check the sales ... enter the contest .... and watch for a survey soon too!

I will get better ... promise!

Lets see .... so far I have gotten 3 females for the upcoming breeding season, assuming the males are ready too. I do still want to get a dark chocolate colored female but that will wait. Once I get a full and complete weight check of all the cresties, I can start to plan who gets paired with who. Of course I do still need 2 more full sized tanks ... Ruby and Lily are in desperate need of proper space.

On the paperwork for the biz side of things, that is takimg its toll on me. I am getting stressed out over trying to get it all done, which then triggers my anxiety and negative self-talk. I will get through it though .... am too stubborn and determined to make this a reality.

I am not expecting it to be my main income, but I am not gettimg the time I need to get Poser projects done. That too will happen when things get sorted. We have 2 meetings tomorrow, so hopefully some funding will come soon ....

Sweet dreams!

Well the start-up funding came in, and enabled the business to become a fully registered business, and get female geckos for the upcoming breeding season.

On the trip to the Canadian Reptile Breeders Expo in Mississauga, I got to meet up with a few folks I had only talked with online, and Northern Gecko (my FAVE store for needed stuff and awesome geckos) was having a buy one get one .... so when I picked up the gecko they had been holding for me, I also got another. Looks like she also has a full pinstripe and dark coloring. So there we go ... all set for the upcoming season, as long as we can control the heat and humidity better.

The next business meeting will be on Wed the 14th, so hopefully a bit more fundimg for covering the costs of getting a table at expos. We shall see ... more to post after...

Love to all from Katt's Kritters!

I sold Alex today to a young woman who was seeking a red gecko. She had a loupe and was able to help ID the gender on a few of the babies, which was cool. I really need to get one of those loupes .... maybe at the CRBE next weekend.

Not a lot to post ... long day ... and back is hurting .... def going to be an early night .... company tomorrow before noon ....

Let's see .... today's biz fun was getting a separate account set up at the bank that will strictly be used for Katt's Kritters activity. Such fun being an adult ... right?

I updated a bunch of the pages with some progression pics for the babies. It was interesting to learn what photos I had in one place but not in the place I needed them to be in ... LOL That was quickly remedied. I will try to get to more of the pages tomorrow.

From now until the end of day on Sept 15th, all listed babies are $15 off ... so I will see if that helps get the ball rolling.

I will be picking up Lana (female) on the 10th ... and I am so excited. She should make for some nice babies.

Well it;s been a long day (again - might be why I missed posting a couple days there) ... so that's about all I got for this ...

Luv to all from the Kritter zoo!
